Love in Grey and Yellow : Dancing, Dancing, Dancing Machines

Even though we didn’t have a full on dance ‘til you drop reception, we did have dancing and we did have some dancing machines.  

  

See?  Dancing machines.  Look at Mr. Joey doing the robot.  I didn’t even know he could. :) And my friend Dani braking it down?  Hot Mama!

Love in Grey and Yellow : Shakin’ Our Money Makers

I know that this is controversial, but we had a money dance.  We were on the fence about it for a while but then everyone started asking us if we were going to do it.  I don’t mean just my family where the money dance is tradition, I mean Mr. Joey’s family and our friends.  When I realized that Mr. Joey’s family had done the money dance before, I was OK with us doing it because I knew we wouldn’t have to explain it to people.

I have to say, the money dance was actually one of the funnest things we did.  I didn’t think Mr. Joey would enjoy it, but he did.  And we were both surprised by the people who came forward to dance with us.

 

For some reason, the men really like to dance with Mr. Joey and the women like to dance with me.  A little odd?

  The weird thing about the money dance is that I thought we’d make maybe $100 during the dance.  In reality, we made A LOT more than that.  We used some of the money on our honeymoon and some on something really special I’ll tell you about later.  And yes, someone pinned a Subway card on Mr. Joey.

Love in Grey and Yellow : So Don’t Just Stand There, Bust A Move

I loved seeing the cast of Glee do Young MC’s Bust A Move. 

Anyway, before I got distracted by Glee, I was talking about busting a move.  With who?  Papa Joey.

Instead of doing the traditional slow dance with my Dad, we decided to do the twist and Mr. Joey and MIL Joey joined us.

Papa Joey wasn’t the only person getting down!  Mr. Joey’s had a few moves saved up.

Love in Grey and Yellow : Toasting the Newlyweds

After we ate and mingled a little, it was time for the toasts.  I have to say, the toasts were one of the highlights of the wedding day.  I’ve been to weddings where there were 7-10 toasts that were really intimate/personal that I sometimes didn’t understand.

We limited the toasts to 3 and they were absolutely perfect.  We cried, we laughed, we ahhh’d and then we laughed again.

 

MOH Joey went first.  Her toast was sweet and sentimental.  I think she started the tear up as she gave it and it was probably the closest I came to tears all day.  It was the perfect toast to get from your sister and oldest friend.

Next up was BIL/BM Joey.  MOH Joey really wanted to go first because BM Joey is a professor and basically a professional speaker.

BM Joey’s toast was just as perfect as MOH Joey’s but in a different way.  Her toast was sentimental and his toast was hilarious in a slightly embarrassing way.  Let’s just say I knew of Mr. Joey’s great love of marching in the Soviet Union but I did not know about his interpretive dance routines to the theme of Dallas.  He ended the toast with a little advice about marriage that was actually useful.

The last toast was given by one of Mr. Joey’s oldest friends, usher Justin.  Justin was actually the first friend Mr. Joey made when he moved to the Northwest from Kansas in Jr. High.  Justin was also Mr. Joey’s common law husband for about 8 or 9 years.  His toast was more of a warning/torch passing to me.  From one SI to another. :)

Three perfect but completely different toasts from three absolutely AMAZING people! And with that – Cheers!!

The food at our reception was really yummy!  We had several people tell us it was the best wedding food they had ever had.  I’ve actually had people ask me for recipes including Mama Joey’s lumpia one.  I haven’t decided whether to share it yet.

Love in Grey and Yellow : The First Dance

We exited out of the kitchen into a room of people we loved.

Look at the goofy look on my face!  I had that same face in a school picture when I was 7 years old.

The music started, and we started to dance

Our friends looked on and seemed to be just as happy as we were.  Even though the song didn’t turn out the way we planned (see my wedding heartbreaks for more info), I loved that the guys in Micah’s band played it.  They were there when we met, Josh, the lead singer was the first person who knew we started dating, and they are all still around now that we are married.
